Bighorn hosts Mother-Son Retreat

We recently received in a group from Montana Academy who were taking part in their Mother-Son retreat. Montana Academy, based out of Marion, MT aims to teach students whose emotional problems have disrupted learning in both academic content areas and in learning process. Experienced, trained clinicians provide comprehensive treatment that fosters a resumed momentum along the normative sequence of adolescent development. A sequential phase plan supporting solid progress through an expanding range of options encourages students to become more trustworthy, constructive, energetic and responsible in thinking and behavior.

The mother-son retreat that we were privileged to host is a key component in Montana Academy’s overall program. Facilitated workshops and sessions throughout the retreat helped re-integrate the parents and teens into healthy relationship. The group was able to take huge steps in further developing relationships, both with their mothers but also with the other program staff.

On asking one of the Montana Academy leaders why Camp Bighorn? he responded “The convenience of hospitality.” Having meals and accommodations fully provided was a huge help for the group so they could invest more time focusing on relational growth. We very much enjoyed their presence with us this year and we were encouraged to hear some positive feedback from the mothers who stayed with us. One mother remarked, “Thank you for your hospitality, the food was beautiful, bountiful and delicious!”

The Camp Bighorn retreat experience was a positive one for the group and we are expecting them back next year as well as possibly having the opportunity to host other teams within the Montana Academy program.
