Junior Camp August 2 – 6 2010
Tuesday – August 3 2010
When campers get here eager and ready for adventure they are grouped into a team with which they will experience the rest of the week. A typical day looks something like this: After breakfast all the groups gather together for a morning chapel which includes a lesson and songs of worship. They then progress into one of the adventure activities, which include rafting, challenge course, rock climbing, low static course, riflery/archery and hiking. All groups come together for lunch and laugh over the morning. Another adventure starts after lunch, as the teams rotate through the different activities all week. Once the afternoon event is done, campers and their leaders spend time swimming in the river before lining up for dinner. The day is concluded by an evening chapel with skits, songs and games. Afterwards the campers will then head to bed … at some point.

As the week progresses and another day goes by, the campers are continuing to build relationships and trust. They learn to trust and encourage each other through events like rock climbing in which they need to be honest and open to help. It has been neat to see the older campers help the younger process through the challenges. Lessons were also learned in trust through relying on their harness, rope and the staff which controlled it. Recognizing and feeling the need to trust in their rope opens doors to the bigger picture of trusting God with their lives. This has been a recurring theme throughout the week and one we hope goes home with them.

Today we asked the kids what their experiences with Junior Camp have looked like. The answers were many and varied. They have said that through chapel they have grown closer to God, by singing praise and watching skits they see that God is personable. That He loves them and desires them to come to Him. This has been a cool process to observe throughout the week. But it is even more meaningful to see their desires to make goals to apply to their lives after camp ends. Kids have had a lot of fun this week, they have stepped into the challenges of facing their fears. Learning how to love each other, and finding out who God is, and what His character is like through His creation.
