Adventure 3 – By the Numbers

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

Last Friday we wrapped up our third week of Adventure at Camp Bighorn. We were blessed with two great groups who wasted no time making their Camp Bighorn experience a good one. Don’t forget to check out our facebook page and Youtube channel to see photos and video from this week!

By the Numbers

62 – participants
8 – flat tires on one morning’s bike rotation
48 – adventure rotations
2 – the time in the morning that one group went to bed (sorry Mom)

Recap

Cathedral of Joy, a church from Richland, WA brought their middle school and high school youth groups out. Justin Porter, their youth pastor was with us last year for the first time and was so impressed he sought out more adventure for his group by coming out for our Winter Camp this December. This year he felt God was wanting his group to develop a deeper sense of community together. The adventure experiences his group had challenged each individual to care for the other. A lot of people were facing their fears, particularly on the river and the group stepped up to the plate by supporting each other. Friendships were formed and conflict was turned into care as the group learned to appreciate the best in each other. This was demonstrated best when one individual was willing to step into a situation that was difficult for him for the sake of the rest of his group. He was met in response with love and encouragement.

The other group out this week was Coeur D’alene Bible Church. Titus Ledger, a former summer staff member here at Camp Bighorn led the Jr high group in a purposeful week of seeking God, loving each other, and developing a faith that stands solely on the grace of God. It was especially encouraging to see this groups willingness to process their experience. Lessons were learned in every moment of the day.

Adventure 2 Blog

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

With one week already under our belts we’ve moved straight into Adventure 2, and this week is no cake-walk. We have visiting for the first time 40+ participants from Northview Church in Spokane, WA. They may only be in Junior High but these kids have a heart for adventure!

After a couple days to wet their adventure appetites we took the crew out on a surprise camp out!!! At breakfast this morning all members were accounted for and smiling too! They are currently out on adventure activities, growing closer to one another and closer to God! Stay tuned for the week end recap where you will hear directly from them how God worked in and through their lives at Camp Bighorn this week.

Also with us this week is a family from Ephrata, WA. The adventure activities have provided a lot of fun for the family, but they have also provided a learning environment for the family to begin to ask how God can continue to be the center of their family. As they learn they get to put what they have learned directly to the test as they interact as a family in the next activity. That’s why we call it “Adventure with Purpose!”

Stay tuned to our twitter, facebook and Youtube sites to see the latest photos, videos and comments from Adventure 2!

Gotta Bighorn It!

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

While out on events, one camper reflected on the unique qualities of Camp Bighorn and the ways God is using camp. She said:

“The way Camp Bighorn wraps God [and everything together] and just fully embraces the want and trust and the love of God is just… ”

She ended this by saying “Gotta Bighorn It”, referring to a phrase adopted by their youth group for times when facing challenges.

How would you end this quote? Here’s some ideas our staff came up with:

Incredible | Awesome | Exciting | Life-changing

What would you say?

Behind Every Strong Thing…

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Behind every strong thing there is a pyramid of support holding it up. Camp Bighorn is no different. Every day, every month, and every year we rely on the generosity and support of volunteers who are committed to seeing the ministry of Camp Bighorn succeed.

Every May we host a work weekend to show our appreciation to our volunteers. This year our Work Weekend will be held May 27-30. The cost is free but housing arrangements will need to be made in advance. If you are planning on attending please RSVP by calling 406-826-3144.

On Sunday evening we will be holding a thank-you banquet to show our appreciation for the work and service done throughout the week. Monday morning will provide a short programming session for those who are interested.
