What denomination is Camp Bighorn affiliated with?

Camp Bighorn is a part of Converge Northwest (formerly Columbia Baptist Conference) and is supported by many of its affiliate churches. While the camp has roots with the Columbia Baptist Conference, Camp Bighorn invites churches and believers of all denominations to take part and join the adventure of experiencing God through adventure ministry.

How is an adventure camp different from a traditional camp?

It is the desire of Camp Bighorn to train and mentor life-long disciples of Christ. Because of this, Camp Bighorn seeks to utilize adventure environments to teach and grow our participants. We try not to separate our programming time from our devotional time, and instead see all of these things as opportunities to teach people about their walk with Christ.

Is Camp Bighorn a year-round facility?

Camp Bighorn operates year-round because of the many unique partnerships we have established over the years. Our summer program is full of week-long camps and adventure retreats that run from June through August. Our college-partnerships run in September and October and then again from January through March. In the fall of 2013, we are hoping to launch a new college program, Journey, that would run the length of the fall semester (September through December).  Our retreats are available any time of the year, provided we have the staff and resources available.

What does a typical week look like at Camp Bighorn during the summer?

A typical schedule at Camp Bighorn will vary depending on which type of camp you register for. Our most popular camps, the adventure camps, typically run for 5 days (Monday through Friday). The first and last days are shorter days to accommodate travel. The full days begin with breakfast and a chapel time which can be facilitated by either the Camp Bighorn staff or the church/group leaders. After that, it is time for some adventures. On a rotational schedule, groups will participate in rock climbing, white water rafting, kayaking, low and high ropes course and other adventures with one activity before lunch and one after lunch. These adventures are facilitated by our Camp Bighorn staff and we encourage groups to process through their experiences to apply Biblical concepts and Truth into their lives. Without this debriefing component, our adventures can become just another thrill, but what we really care about is transforming peoples lives and developing Kingdom leaders. After the afternoon activity, dinner is served and groups will either have cabin time devotions or another chapel time. This is just an example schedule of what a week could look like at Camp Bighorn. We do our best to be flexible with our scheduling to create the experience that will best serve your group and no two weeks seem to ever look alike.

How many staff members work full-time with Camp Bighorn?

As we head into 2013, we have 32 full-time staff members with Camp Bighorn.

Why do Camp Bighorn members raise their own salary?

In 2003, Camp Bighorn made a decision that greatly impacted the way the camp operates. The leadership decided to ask its staff to raise 100% of their finances in keeping with the missionary support model. This decision was made in order to keep operational costs low so that the camp could reach out to more people and in order to maintain the desired amount of staff members. In an age when camps typically run with 2-3 full-time staff, Camp Bighorn has grown their full-time staff to 32 members and the Camp has finished above budget for the past 5 years.

How can I be involved with Camp Bighorn?

There are many ways you can be involved with Camp Bighorn’s ministry. One of the best ways to see and experience Camp Bighorn’s ministry is to come as a participant yourself, or with your church or family.
